Barbara Joy Fletcher passed away on September 4, 2018 in Tyler, Texas at The Hospice Center of East Texas. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on May 10, 1933 to Champ Terry Slayton and Nona Belle Slayton.
Barbara loved the Lord and was an active member of Queen Street Baptist Church in Tyler and later Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas. Barbara loved to travel with her husband and passed that sense of adventure to her daughter and grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Carrol C. Fletcher; her father Champ Terry Slayton; her mother, Nona Belle Slayton; her brothers Jerry Don Slayton and Frank Stephen Slayton; and sister-in-law Joyce Slayton.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Patricia Perry Moody of Tyler and husband Richard Moody; beloved grandsons Jason Perry and Chad Perry; sister Donna Kaye Carter and husband Bill Carter of Hide-A-Way Lake; sister-in-law Rosemary Slayton of Van, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 6-8pm at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler. Graveside services will be held at Tyler Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11am, with Brother Sherman Mayfield officiating.
A heart felt thank you to Home Instead Senior Care caregivers, Jennifer and Williford, whose devotions and skills allowed our loved one to live comfortably in her home for the last months of her life. A special thanks to The Hospice Center of East Texas, for their compassionate last days care.
