Barbara was born the youngest of twelve children and was raised on a farm in Nebraska. She met her husband of 49 years through her sister (who married his brother). Initially they lived in Montana helping on the farm, but she and Franklin had bigger plans. They moved to Iowa where Franklin attended barber school. Barbara worked to help support the family. In Iowa, they had their son Scott and purchased their first motel. They ended up owning motels in Iowa, Arkansas and Texas. Barbara kept busy with the bookkeeping of the business. After they sold the last of the businesses, Barbara spent time volunteering.
Barbara loved Jesus and was a lifelong LCMS Lutheran. She was baptismal sponsor to many of her nieces and nephews, a role she took very seriously. She was known by many for being a great cook. Everyone especially enjoyed her cookies. She enjoyed music in many forms, playing piano and singing. Her favorite to listen to were barbershop quartets. Barbara also enjoyed card games, board games, puzzles and watching the Mavericks play. Most of all, she enjoyed time with family as they were always top priority.
