

Services for Carl E. Dorsey, 82, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Lloyd James Funeral Home with the Rev. Karen Jones officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Whitehouse Cemetery under direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Carl E. Dorsey passed away on April 28, 2013, after a short illness at East Texas Medical Center. He was born Oct. 21, 1930, in Tyler to the late Cassie and Bennett Dorsey. He graduated from Tyler High School, Tyler Junior College and Tyler Commercial College.
Carl entered the U.S. Air Force in December 1950 and was assigned to Strategic Air Force, 9th Air Refueling Squadron during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church for 40 years, where he was a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He joined Green Acres Baptist Church in 1986.
He was a Master Mason at Tyler Lodge 1233. Carl was a member of Scottish Rite and Sharon Shrine Temple.
After meeting Virginia Melton at Tyler Junior College, where she was an Apache Belle and he was an Apache band member, they were married for 58 years. Carl retired from Scurlock-Permian Oil Co. with 35 years of service. He was an avid NASCAR and Texas A&M Aggie football fan. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and loved to attend his grandkids' sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Dorsey; one son, Eric Dorsey and daughter-in-law Shannon Dorsey; and two wonderful grandchildren, Alexa and Gunnar Dorsey, all of Whitehouse. He is also survived by best friends of 53 years, Gail and Red Norris of Whitehouse, who are like family; and his silky terrier, Beau.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cedar Street United Methodist Church, "Mustard Seed" Ministry, 1420 N. Church Ave., Tyler, 75702.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of the Renal Unit at East Texas Medical Center.
