

C.A. attended Tyler Junior College from 1948 to 1950, where he was a member of the Engineer's Club and the basketball team, before continuing his studies at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
He married his hometown sweetheart, Helen Marzee Long, in October 1953 in Bullard. C.A. served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War, working at the Engineering Center in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. After his service, he worked with the Texas natural gas pipelines and later operated a dairy farm in Bullard for many years.
C.A. was preceded in death by his wife, Marzee Barnes; his parents, Claude and Ella Barnes; his sister, Jeanette Bass. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Barnes; son, David Barnes; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and David Gray; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Traci Barnes; Martha Barnes; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other friends and family members.
A Celebration of Life Service for Claude Alfred "C.A." Barnes will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2025 in the Chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Johnston officiating. The family will gather for a time of visitation beginning at 10 am prior to the service. Burial will be at Bullard Cemetery.
