

Donald Lee Hamilton, 85, of Tyler, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014 in Tyler. Mr. Hamilton, a retired Claims Superintendent for an insurance company, was born on August 12, 1928 in Bloomington, IL to John E. and Zella May (DeVary) Hamilton.
He attended Southern Methodist University, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Law and was also a member of the Phi-Delta-Phi Fraternity. He married Dorothy Mae Smith on October 3, 1948 in Athens, IL. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He was a 44 year member of Christ Episcopal Church and a 40 year member of the Tyler Lion’s Club. He was installed as the District Governor in Tokyo, Japan and served from 1978-1979. He was an avid reader and always had a book in his hand. He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and loved his casinos. He and Dorothy traveled to all fifty states, many foreign countries and went on 23 cruises. He sang in the church choir for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Hamilton of Tyler; daughters, Vickie Lynn, and her husband, Raymond Voss of Clinton, Montana, DoAnn Marie Hamilton of Bend, OR; brother, John Michael, and his wife Doris Hamilton of Ashmore, IL and 2 grandchildren, Carrie Marie Voss and Andrew Hamilton Voss.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00PM, Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Lloyd James Funeral Home, 1011 E. First St., Tyler followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00AM, Friday, February 21, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church, 118 S. Bois D’Arc, Tyler. Interment will be at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery.
