

Visitation is scheduled for Dorothy Maellan "Mazie" Ferguson on Monday, July 27, 2015, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas. Graveside services will follow in Cathedral In The Pines in Tyler, Texas, on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 10 am.
Mazie died July 24, 2015, in Houston Texas, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Pasche, Texas, on July 12, 1928, to the late Norma and Virgil Potter. She grew up on a farm in Melvin, Texas, and graduated from Melvin High School. She went on to attend Southwest State Teacher's College. She married the love of her life, Earl Ferguson, on June 14, 1947. They were married for 56 years.
Mazie lived in Houston for forty-four years and raised her family there. In 2003, Mazie and Earl moved to Tyler, Texas. She was a member of Marvin Methodist Church and was a greeter there for several years. She also volunteered for Coats for Kids. In 2014, she moved back to Houston to be near family.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl. She is survived by her daughters Debby McDonald, of Mandeville, Louisiana, and Sheila Leatherwood of Tyler/Houston. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren Ogilvie, Hogan Leatherwood and Jordan McDonald, and her great grandchildren Mary Hogan and Buckner Ogilvie, all of Houston.
Honorary pall bearers will be Hogan Leatherwood, Jordan McDonald, Will Ogilvie, Bill McDonald, and Harry Leatherwood.
