

Dr. Keuer passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, in Tyler.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 1, 1923, to the late Edward John Keuer and Lydia Brockman Keuer. His career was primarily spent in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, both as a teacher and administrator. From 1944-1954, he taught elementary school at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Houston; after becoming principal there he earned his master’s degree in education at the University of Houston.
During the years 1955-1963, he worked as executive director for Parish Education for the Texas LCMS district in Austin. During this time, he received his Ph.D in Education at the University of Texas, and from 1963-1970 served as graduate dean at Concordia College in River Forest, Illinois.
In 1970, he became the headmaster of Spring Branch Academy in Houston, a private school for children with learning disabilities. He finished his career as director of education at Concordia College in Portland, Oregon from 1978–1988. After moving to Tyler in 1988, he became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He relished the teaching opportunities and the relationships he experienced there. His favorite hobbies involved working in the yard with his shrubs and trees, and cultivating his vegetable garden. He will be remembered fondly by many for his outgoing demeanor and love of fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen Ann Keuer of Tyler; and sister, Miriam Mueller of Bonduel, Wisconsin.
Survivors are his sons, Dr. Edward J. Keuer III and wife Christine, of Wheaton, Ill., Dr. Steven P. Keuer and wife Debbie, of Tyler; Thomas A. Keuer and wife Meena, of Boulder, Colo., and Michael J. Keuer and wife Shannon, of Corinth; his daughters, Marcia L. Braun and husband David, of Upland, California, Gayle A. Cutro and husband Mark, of Spicewood, and Susan K. Jones and husband Bill, of Fort Worth; his grandchildren, Dr. Brian Keuer and wife Courtney, Eryn Keuer, Dana Keuer, Scott Keuer and Naoko Joy Keuer, Whit Keuer and wife Debbie, Andrew Keuer and wife Lydia, Jennifer Keuer, Zachary Keuer and Braedon Keuer, Garrett Keuer and Samantha Keuer, Jamie McMahon and husband Mark, and Susan Braun; Brandon Cutro and wife Erin, and Adam Cutro; Lauren Jones and Morgan Jones; his great-grandchildren are Gianna Keuer, Everett Keuer, Micah and AnneMarie Keuer; Dominic Giancana; Natalie and Emily McMahon; Elizabeth and Abigail Cutro; Tuck Finley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Braun, Mark Cutro, Bill Jones, Dr. Brian Keuer, Scott Keuer, Whit Keuer, Andrew Keuer, Brandon Cutro, Adam Cutro, Zachary Keuer, Braedon Keuer and Garrett Keuer.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
