Dr. George Walter Shaw, 90, Tyler passed away peacefully at home on February 26, 2018. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 2, 2018 under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Allison Thompson. Interment will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery, Tyler
He was born on February 9, 1928 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to the late George Dewey Shaw and Mary Alberta Young.
He attended UT Southwestern Medical School, followed by University of Kansas. He practiced orthopedics in Houston and then in Tyler where he retired. He met his wife of 64 years, Betty Shaw at Parkland Hospital in Dallas where she was a nurse and he was a medical student. He was blessed with a quick wit and was active working with cars, boating, playing his cornet and was eager to lend a helping hand. He served as a flight surgeon at Fort Hood and enjoyed flying as a private pilot.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers Millard and Wayne Shaw.
George is survived by his children, Mark, Lauren, and Paul Shaw and his grandchildren Beth, Claire, and Robyn Gilliam.
