The family of Harold Zack Banks will gather to receive family and friends for a time of visitation from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Southern Oaks Baptist Church, 601 E Amherst Dr, Tyler, TX. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Tony Garrett and Rev. Kendall Banks. He will be laid to rest at Cathedral In The Pines Cemetery, Tyler.
Zack Banks, of Tyler, was born on November 14, 1942, in Mt. Vernon, Texas, to Roger and Lois Banks and passed away on August 27, 2025. On September 12, 1964, Zack married Lorraine Collins, beginning a lifetime of love and friendship. Shortly after their wedding, Lorraine joined him in Munich, Germany, where they lived for two years, building lasting memories and enjoying life together.
In 1967, after Zack’s discharge from the US Army, the couple settled in Tyler, where they spent more than five decades raising their children, serving in their church, and gratefully enjoying the life they built together. Zack’s greatest joy was Lorraine, and after her passing he kept her close by honoring her with treasured stories of their life together, shared with family and friends.
Zack was a devoted husband and father who worked faithfully to provide for his family. He was grateful and proud to serve 41 years at Delek Refining in Tyler, where he was respected as a hard worker, admired for his dedication, and valued as a loyal friend.
He lived his life as a faithful man—faithful to his Lord, to his wife, and to his family. Known for his selfless nature, Zack was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. If you thanked him for anything, you may have heard him say, “It’s my privilege.” He will be remembered as a true servant, someone who was always willing to help others before himself. His kind acts of service touched countless lives, and his example will continue to inspire those who knew him.
His love for Lorraine was beyond compare, and his commitment to his children and grandchildren leaves a legacy of devotion that will continue through generations. Zack is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kendall and Kim Banks of Mineola; daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Shaune Martinez of Tyler; grandchildren, Kiley, Karsyn, Kenzi, and Ruby; his brother, Ralph; and many cousins of the Banks and Mattingly families. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Lorraine.
Zack’s life was marked by many great loves: his childhood days on the farm in Mt. Vernon, his adventures in Munich with his young bride, the work and fellowship he found at the refinery, the joy of raising his children, and the blessing of grandchildren who were his pride and delight. Above all, his greatest love was Lorraine, and together they built a life that will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew them.
