

After high school, Jan joined the US Naval Reserve and served for several years. He was a graduate of Tyler High School, Stephen F. Austin University, and the University of Arkansas. He was a language professor of Spanish, English, and French at Texas A&M University and Tyler Junior College. Jan was an active ham radio operator and a strict vegan. He was a charter member of the Eat Healthy Tyler group, and made many close friends there. He was a member of Grace Community Church of Tyler for over 35 years.
Jan was very family oriented and for the last ten years he accomplished organizing the Hudson family reunion, which had an annual attendance of approximately 75 people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Sydney Kent Pate and Linda Ruth Kent.
Survivors include a sister, Kay Kent Blow of Tyler; a brother Phil (Chiemi) Kent of Austin; nephews, Steve (Lori) Blow of Dallas, Craig (Jan) Blow of Aubrey, Fred (Cynthia) Pate of Tyler, and Jimmy Kent of Dallas; nieces, Nina Blow Rochelle of Tyler, Ginger Pate South of Tyler, and Linda (Dustin) Kent Bennett of Benbrook; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
Jan was a modest, humble man of few words, but he had a great sense of humor. He loved sports on TV, especially major league baseball and college football. He lived a frugal lifestyle, but was very generous to others. He was loved by friends and family and will be greatly missed.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be a private family burial at the Hudson Family Cemetery.
