Jesse Britton “Britt” Tooke, 77, passed away on January 13, 2026, in Tyler, Texas. Born on December 18, 1948, in Fort Myers, Florida. Britt was a resident of Whitehouse, TX at the time of his passing. Britt lived a life marked by adventure, dedication to his work and family, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Britt built a long and successful career in the oil industry. He worked for many years with Baker Hughes Oil Company before transitioning into contract work within the same field. His profession took him across the globe—from the rugged landscapes of Alaska to the distant shores of South Africa—as well as numerous locations across the United States. Through these travels and experiences, Britt forged lasting friendships and collected countless stories that he loved to share.
A proud outdoorsman, Britt was an avid fisherman and hunter. He found joy in bass tournaments and cherished time spent at his hunting lease with friends. Britt often made fishing a family adventure when Jennifer and Greg were little. Some of his most treasured memories later in life, were made fishing alongside his son in the wilds of Alaska or the lakes of Wisconsin.
Britt’s devotion to his family was unwavering. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary of 58 years; his brother Lee Roy (Darlene) Tooke of Lockport, LA; sister Sally (Greg) Palmer of Huntsville, Alabama; sister Leigh Ann Tooke of Dallas, Texas; son Greg (Holli) Tooke of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; daughter Jennifer Hensley of Round Rock, Texas; and granddaughter Cora Hensley, also of Round Rock. Having the title of Papa was Britt’s most valued accomplishment.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Hampton Tooke and Laura Jean Tooke-Graham as well as his grandparents.
Britt served his country during the Vietnam War after enlisting in the U.S. Air Force—a chapter of his life that reflected both courage and commitment.
Those who knew Britt will remember him as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and papa. His legacy lives on through the stories he told, the friendships he nurtured, and the love he gave so freely.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
