

Lois Mae Tubbs Dunn was born on January 6, 1927 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Leona and James H. Tubbs. She graduated from Tulsa’s Will Rogers High School in 1944, where she was a member of an honorary speech association; Masque and Gavel. She earned a BA in History in 1938 from the University of Tulsa where she was a member of Chi Omega social sorority, Lantern Women’s scholastic honor society and Pi Gamma Mu honorary history association. She was also a cheerleader and sometimes traveled to U of Tulsa football games with university band members, which is how she met a handsome young jazz trumpet player named George Dunn.
Lois and George married at Tulsa’s All Souls Unitarian Church on December 27, 1947. She was full-time mom to their three children, Cathy, Evelyn and Ken. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother as well as a talented seamstress, diligent gardener and avid reader, particularly of history. She compiled and wrote a family history book, It’s All Dunn, that includes both Tubbs and Dunn heritage.
Lois earned an MA in Education from the University of Houston in 1974. She taught 4th grade in Houston for 10 years in the 1970-80’s.
Lois and George finally settled down in Tyler, Texas in 1991. Lois was an active member of AAUW, the Ladies of the Woods, and two book clubs. She will be missed by her family and friends for her intellect, humor and many talents.
Lois is survived by her Husband: George V. Dunn, Jr., Tyler, Texas.
Three Children: Cathy Dunn Blackwell (Brian N. Sabowitz), San Antonio, Texas. Evelyn Dunn (Raymond Hair), Denton, Texas. Kenneth Dunn (Sherry Bardwell Dunn), Tyler, Texas. Five Grand children and two great-grandchildren.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, 7/25/11, at Lloyd James Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 10:30am on 7/30/11 at Memorial Park Cemetery.
