Mary Elizabeth Spradlin

Mary Elizabeth Spradlin passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on August 28, 2025. She was born to Floyd W. & Lillian Hope O’Bannion in Ellis County, TX on September 20, 1929. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Martha Lou O’Bannion and Charles Edward O’Bannion. Mary is survived by her sister, Margaret Ann (Polly) McKinley of Conroe, in addition to children, LouAnn O’bannion (Tom), Brad Spradlin (Debbie) and Kym McRee. Grandchildren are Andy Garner and wife Amanda, Ben Garner and Aubrey Heinemann, Trent Spradlin and wife Shelby, Sara Register and husband Klay, Scott Spradlin and wife Connie Sander, Kortnye Willmon, Korey McRee and wife Kyla. Her 12 great-grandchildren include Garrett, Luke, Ruthie, Chad, Emily, Will, Lauren, Ryan, Logan, Brooklynn, Aniston, Finn, Samuel and Saylor, and great-great grandchildren, Lainey & Lorelai.

Mary’s greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother (Gran). She loved taking her grandchildren everywhere from plays, ice shows, & Easter pageants to mud-bogging, Six Flags and Texas Ranger games. She delighted in buying them clothes, ensuring everyone had an outfit for holidays from Valentines to Christmas, and any special occasion. She enjoyed cooking, baking, flower gardening, and a good cup of coffee. She is remembered for her fried chicken, cakes, pies, fudge and angel biscuits. After raising her children, she thrived in her retail sales career at Beall’s, receiving many awards. She also enjoyed in-home caregiving for elderly patients.

Mary was an active member of the Baptist Church, teaching Bible classes and GA’s and toddlers at Mother’s Day Out. Mary’s life exemplified living as Jesus did, with love, service and compassion.

Visitation will be held at Lloyd James Funeral Home on Monday, September 8, 2025 from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by interment at Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler.

The family appreciates the care provided for Mary by Park Place Nursing Home. If desired, memorials may be given to Hospice of East Texas.
