

Dr. Overall was born September 24, 1925, in Valliant, Oklahoma and passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in Tyler. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Dr. Overall is survived by one son, Bobby, and wife Charlene. She is also survived by her eldest grandchild, Blake, and wife Katie, along with youngest grandchild, Britton, and fiancé Sandra. Additionally, she has two great-grandchildren, Josh and Declan.
Thelma (Hazel) was preceded in death by her husband, Royal (Clyde) Overall in 1979 as well as her father, Robert (Bob) Esko Warren of Idabel, Oklahoma in 1978. Hazel's mother, Viola Thelma (Stogdill) Warren passed away in Tyler, December 24, 2000. She, too, was a resident of Idabel, Oklahoma - - although she and Hazel lived together in Tyler for about eight years prior to Viola's death.
Dr. Overall spent her 33 years (professionally) in the Tyler area, having taught at Marsh Elementary School, Douglas Elementary School, Roberts Junior High School, and Stewart Junior High School. She served as an instructional consultant during the latter part of her career. She also taught "Using the Newspaper in the Classroom" at Texas Eastern University which has since become the University of Texas at Tyler.
Dr. Overall earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education Degrees in 1956 as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in 1971 at Texas A & M University-Commerce.
She retired from the Tyler Independent School District in 1989.
Other endeavors were: assisted the Office of Organized Research (East Texas State University) in placing visual and written materials of the Fullwood Study in various public and private MHMR agencies - - the study was funded by a grant from Dr. Harry Montgomery Lafferty, Director of Research at East Texas State University.
Dr. Overall sponsored Newspaper in the Classroom Seminars. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, National Educators Association, Texas State Teachers Association, Classroom Teachers Association, and the Association of Professional Educators. Honors: Parent Teachers Association Life Membership, honored by Texas A & M- Commerce Foundation - as a member of the Blue and Gold (2001-2002), Charter Member of the Republican Task Force, listed in the most prominent Educators of Texas (1983), member of Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.
Dr. Overall was also a Charter Member on the Board of Directors for East Texas Christian Academy ... instrumental in choosing the name of the institution.

The House of Representatives Resolution 557 honored this educator for 33 years of dedicated service, read and adopted by the 75th legislative session on April 25, 1997 by Ted Kamel. (Representative Ted Kamel represented District 6.)
Dr. Overall enjoyed a long working relationship in Overall Enterprises with her son, Bobby Clyde Overall, in Tyler and in Athens, Texas.
