Travis Gilbreath was born August 24, 1942 to Henry and Essie Gilbreath. He was the youngest of 10 children, and departed this life on January 12, 2014, at Hospice of East Texas with family and friends surrounding him, after a courageous battle with cancer that invaded his body due to asbestos exposure years before. He handled the battle with courage, dignity, and a continued determination to help anyone that he could. Travis was married to his high school sweetheart Jon Carole Jackson for 51-1/2 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Throughout his adult life, he worked in all phases of the lumber and construction business; his most treasured job was at Pine Cove as Building and Maintenance Supervisor for the past six years. He also used his talent building special projects for Vacation Bible School and Sunday morning sermons at Shiloh Road Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder. Throughout his adult life, his mission was to work with young people; and his greatest joy came from seeing them grow up to be pillars in the church and community.
Travis was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Leonard and Joe Gilbreath, and sisters, Chloe Simmons, Betty Minnear, Etta Allen and Deane Malone.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jon Carole, and light of his life, daughter Michelle. He is also survived also by brother and sister-in-law Billy and Annalon Gilbreath of Lubbock; sister and husband, Marilyn and Wilbert Gentry of Winona; and sister and husband, Mary and Johnny Hukill of Winona; Mother-in-law, Alice Jackson of Tyler; and sister-in-law and husband, Alice and Steve Burket of Tyler. He has many nieces, nephews, and loved ones including one special niece, Maura Burket and dad John, and special friends Jack and Mary Paul and Ron and Gwynn Shultz.
Pallbearers will be Tom Seliga, Matt Seliga, Corbin Seliga, Don Craig, Cole Craig, Steve Wade, Mike Severa, and Chris Walker. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders of Shiloh Road Church of Christ.
