In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and completed boot camp at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in southern California. As a marine, Archie was an aircraft and jet engine mechanic. He was stationed at Camp Mercury in Nevada, Tripoli in Northern Africa, and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. Archie proudly served during his years as a marine in The Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966. While in the marines, he was assigned to the 1st & 3rd Marine Divisions, 5th Regiment. Due to injury, he could not continue in his assigned duties, so Archie left the Marines in 1967.
From 1967 to 1969, Archie was out of the military service, this was hard on him because he wanted to continue serving his country. So, in 1969 he joined the United States Air Force where he served the remainder of his years to complete a 20-year military career. During his Air Force years, he continued on as an aircraft mechanic and was stationed in the Philippines and Randolph AFB, San Antonio, TX. While in the Air Force he completed another tour of duty in Vietnam. In 1975 Archie retired from the military having proudly served in two branches; he saw combat both as a marine and an airman.
After his military career, Archie did many things. He worked for IBM in San Antonio, also he worked for Brinks, and he drove city bus for Via Metro Transit. He then went on to have a career with the Postal Service where he worked in their motor vehicle services department. Following his postal career, he decided he still wasn’t done, so he started a career with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Dept. Lieutenant Rosette retired from law enforcement at the age of 76, having served his last years as the bailiff for Judge Baker in Precinct 3.
Archie belonged to the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. He also served as a deacon for Tried Stone Baptist Church.
Archie will be fondly remembered as a true patriot who proudly served his country and community. He will also be remembered as a straight forward man who had an unmatched, disciplined work ethic.
