Betty W. Tharp

Betty W. Jewell Tharp passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Army Retirement Center, San Antonio, Texas. A native of Winchester, Clark County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bertha Gravett Jewell. Betty was a retired real estate agent and co-owner of Preston & Farley Real Estate Company for many years. Survivors include her husband, Col. Blucher S. Tharp, Jr., U.S. Army Retired, of Austin, Texas; daughter, Tracey Farley of Austin, Texas; sons, Blucher Tharp III (Rusty) and his wife Olga, and Gordon Tharp and his wife Tracy; Gordon and his wife Tracy have two children, Ian and Lauren; sister, Peggy (Jewell) Turner as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her previous husband Col. Roy William Farley U.S. Army Retired, siblings Dorothy (Jewell) Scott, Margaret (Jewell) McKenzie and Jim Jewell. Memorial Services will be conducted at The Army Retirement Center, 7400 Crestway Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78239 on Friday, August 15th at 11 am. Private interment will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of your choice. Betty strongly supported Disabled Veterans and the Wounded Warrior Foundations.
