Billy was born in Clifton, TN. on September 12, 1947, to Howard Bennett & Mary Elnora Bailey. Billy Hassell attended college at Austin Peay University and served in the Air Force from May 15, 1969 to July 14, 1988 as an Air Traffic Controller. He was honorably retired from the Air Force at the rank of Master Sergeant. He also served the Air Force for thirteen years as a civil servant until 2002 when he retired at the rank of GS-13.
Billy was always outgoing and the life of the party. He was honorable, hard working and kind to everyone he met. He loved fishing, watching football and spending time with family. His favorite teams were the Oklahoma Sooners, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Volunteers. Some of Billy’s favorite times were taking his wife, Yong, and two boys, Billy and Charles, fishing at the Great Salt Plains Lake in Oklahoma.
He is survived by; his wife, Yong Hassell, & sons, Billy & Charles.

A gathering of family and friends for Billy will be held from 9:00a.m. to 9:30a.m. Monday, November 3, 2025 at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. Following the gathering of family and friends will be a committal service from 10:30a.m. to 10:50a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
