

Charles “Chuck” V. Carew , beloved husband, father, and grandfather, entered into his eternal rest in April 2010 at the age of 77. He was born in Bell, California in January 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents Frances V. and Felma L. Carew and his brother Francis E. Carew. He is survived by his loving wife Karen, his daughters Karen M. Oakes and Victoria L. Pullen, his grandchildren Kelly W. and Krista N. Oakes, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Chuck entered the U.S. Air Force in July 1952 at the age of 19 and served at bases throughout the United States and overseas. His many assignments included Castle AFB, California; Tinker AFB, Oklahoma; Edwards AFB, California: and Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. His overseas assignments included tours in Spain, Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force after 26 years of service, having received many awards and decorations. Following his Air Force career, Chuck worked for a post-tensioning corporation before starting his own home remodeling and repair business where he developed a solid reputation throughout San Antonio. Unable to quietly retire, he joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1987 and served with USPS for more than 22 years until retiring in October 2009. Chuck will be remembered by his family and friends for his love of tennis, travel, fishing, a great sense of humor, his outstanding woodworking skills, and extreme dedication to whatever project or job he undertook. Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Sunday, April 25, 2010 from 3 to 5 pm. A Funeral Mass will be at St John Neumann Catholic Church on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 11:30 am with reception to follow. Interment will be at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors at 2:30 p.m.
