Daphne Violet Bible

Our family lost a warrior September 24, 2021. Daphne Violet Bible, aged 84, beloved wife, precious mother and adored grandmother passed away peacefully at home in Converse, Texas after an extended illness.

Daphne was born in Great Milton, England to Edith and Gilbert Pickett on July 3rd, 1937. Daphne was the third child of the couple who had five children together: David, Derek, Daphne, Doris and Deb.

She is survived by the love of her life Alvin H Bible. Daphne met Alvin on a blind date on April Fool’s Day in 1956 while Alvin was stationed in England. The two married on February 23rd, 1957 and spent 64 wonderful years together. The couple’s first child, son James, was born while stationed in England. Moving as a family, their next assignment was Little Rock, Arkansas where daughter Julie was born. Together the family travelled the world living in France and Germany, and in several states collecting many friends and memories along the way. Alvin and Daphne showed us all the powerful influence of their beautiful relationship by exemplifying their loyalty, dedication, and true love for one another. They proved to all who witnessed their union that the love they shared is one to live by.

Daphne worked as a Telephone Operator during her years of civil service which was the perfect occupation for her as she loved to talk, Daphne was never one to mince words and would strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Her endearing personality gave her the remarkable ability to connect to everyone around her and made even strangers feel like they were her best friend.

She settled in Texas upon retirement and became the proud grandmother to Lauren, Gillian, Ashlyn, and Sarah. She lived a simple life, and it did not take much to make her happy – a phone call, a card, a visit or a new photo on Facebook for her to beam with pride over. Her grandchildren were the most important people in the world to her. Daphne’s grandchildren all share in their love and admiration for their grandmother, in their words: “She was one of the most influential and impactful people in their lives. She taught them so much about being kind, hardworking, generous, and confident. We miss her three-hour phone calls because she was our best friend filled with so much compassion, she was our go to for advice or a pick me up.” Daphne spent countless hours on the phone talking with her friends and family, always reminding them that they were loved and thought of often.

She was a member of the English Wives Club and together they made many items to raise money and donate to different organizations. Daphne was an avid knitter and in her spare time spent numerous hours knitting blankets and hats for area hospitals and nursing homes, as well as beautiful items for family and friends. Daphne also loved to watch sports, which included her favorite football team the Dallas Cowboys and the annual Wimbledon Championships. At the end of each night Daphne would always enjoy a cup of tea with husband Alvin over supper, watching their favorite shows, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Love, quality time, and the little things, Daphne showed us- A life lived to the fullest.

Daphne is proceeded in death by parents Edith and Gilbert Pickett and brother David. She is survived by husband Alvin, son James and daughter-in-law Teresa, daughter Julie and son-in-law Tom, granddaughter Lauren and husband Jordan and great grandchildren Harper, Rowan, Crew and Gray, granddaughters Gillian, Ashlyn, and Sarah and husband Jake. Also surviving are her family in England, brother Derek and wife Barbara, and sisters Doris, and Deb and husband Richard and many nieces and nephews.
