A dear man, such knowledge!  Much loved and missed by friends in St. John, US Virgin Islands.  He helped us with our gardening seminars for the Friends of the Park and then told us wonderful stories of his mango madness program in St. Croix at the Botannical Gardens there.

OMG, I had no idea until I saw some strange posts to David's FaceBook page.

He was one of the first people I knew when I moved to San Juan in 2003.  We became friends and he came over from St. Croix for a couple weekends.

It was probably a year ago that I last heard from him when he was sharing some orchid advice.

I am so shocked and will really miss him.

Deepest sympathy to the others he was special for.  He was a dear friend.

I met David when he first came to SGVBG.  He was a creative blessing, not only to the garden, but also the island.  His memory will live forever in our hearts.

My prayers to the Hamada family on their loss. I had the priveledge of being the manager at Wolfe Nursery when David came to work there after college. I remember his work there and was always impressed by his professionalism and knowledge and was inspired by his love of horticulture. Rest in peace David, the world is a little less colorful without you.

David & I were in many of the same classes during high school.  I remember that he was always such a friendly & caring person.

Dear Hamada Family,
My husband and I knew David on St. Croix during his long tenure at SGVBG. He made every visitor to the garden a welcomed guest who left feeling a connection to what they had just experienced. Personally David was my boss and I enjoyed coming to work every day because of him. He shared life stories, knowledge of flowers and plants and jokes with me. David touched many lives here in St. Croix. He was always so full of life and treated everyone like an old friend. Every time I pass the St. George Botanical Gardens I think of David. He will truly be missed. My thoughts go out to the family.

I was able to meet up with David just once,but he left me with such an unforgettable positive impression.

I knew David as a San Antonio Botanical Garden volunteer and as a contract instructor myself. David was a high-energy, visionary person who most especially advocated for common sense use of sustainable practices in landscaping. He was highly skilled in dealing with ambiguity.
David was enthusiastic about gardening and native plants. During our brief acquaintance, he told me numerous times and with great clarity of vision, that his hope when returning to San Antonio to work was to foster development of gardens and programs which would feature and respect the use of native plants by the local Tejano culture. David would always add that he also would encourage people from other cultures that have since come to San Antonio area, to also share their own traditional uses of plants from their homelands. David's vision of culture-based gardening was so clear to him; I could only catch a glimpse of it when he described it to me.
David was very conscious of, and grateful for, the cultural heritages transmitted to him by his parents. He believed he had been blessed to benefit from knowing two cultures and having parents who shared them with him. I think his appreciation for people of different cultures was also linked in an almost tangible way to his appreciation for plants of all continents.
When David became ill, he told us he had a severe sinus infection and was getting well. He said he had rested for three days and couldn't stand to rest any more. To see someone normally so full of energy sit quietly and in obvious pain caused great concern. David's supervisor Cynthia Klemmer was concerned and insisted he needed to go to the emergency room. His death causes great sadness. 
David will certainly be well-remembered for his vitality. The work to which he so dedicated his life will continue to influence those who had the privilege to know him and those who did not.

We were very fortunate that David spent part of his life on St. Croix.  We had the opportunity to observe his passion for his job and to be inspired by his kind and gentle nature.

Dear Hamada Family,
We want to let your know that David had been such a great inspiration to us and our life here in St. Croix.  His knowledge and inspiration lead us to the gardens for several events. He always opened his arms and heart to whom ever walked through the gates of the garden. we are grateful that part of our lives had him in it.

So sorry to hear about your lose. Our Audubon society traveled to STX and David gave us a great tour of the botanical gardens. No one wanted the tour to end. He truly loved his job and his plants. You should all be very proud of him.  I will remember him in my prayers.

I will miss you so much

I have known David since he was a young boy, dragging home unwanted plants from Wolfe Nursery and making them blossom. His love of plants, and life, was contagious. I will continue to feel his spirit when I marvel at the beauty of nature. David touched so many lives and I hope that his family can take some comfort in knowing how very loved he is.
