The Lord called Home SGM (Ret) David Eugene Herriott on August 10, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 81. His beloved wife, Brigitte B. Herriott and daughter, Kathy A. Meyers were by his side. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
David is the eldest son born to Eugene E. Herriott and Catherine Kostra on July 20, 1940 in Sharon, PA. He is survived by his brother, Richard T. Herriott of PA and his sister, Janice E. Sweeney of PA. After graduating from high school, David attended Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN prior to joining the US Army in January 1959. He was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, TX and received training as a Dental Lab Technician. He was then assigned to Nurnberg, Germany where he met and married his loving wife of 60 years, Brigitte B. Schäff from Nurnberg, Germany. David served at multiple duty locations during his 30 years of Army Service. He served in many roles ranging from a dental lab technician through a dental lab supervisor. He was stationed in Nurnberg, Germany, 1959 to 1961; Fort McPherson, GA, 1961-1964; Ft. Sam Houston, TX, 1964 -1974; Frankfurt, Germany, 1974-1980; Ft. Belvoir, VA, 1980 -1982; Frankfurt, Germany, 1982-1986 where he served as the SGM for the 122nd Dental Detachment. In 1986 he was reassigned to Walter Reed Army Hospital and retired in 1989 from the United States Army. The couple once again returned to San Antonio, TX and David returned to his roots and passion as a dental lab technician instructor. There he taught his students how to cast and form partials and bridges. He left his instructor position and was hired as a US Government employee where he worked at Brooke Army Medical Center in the Cardiology Department as a Patient Coordinator. He finally permanently retired at age 62 in 2006 from the Federal Government.
David and Brigitte raised two children together David Christian (1961) and Kathy Annette (1964). David’s son David is currently married to Donna (Webb) of VA. David has four children, daughter Jessica and husband Kris Dorsey, of VA (children Alexis and Chance) daughter Rachel and husband Chris Shiflett of VA (children Londen and Carson) and two sons, David and Christopher Herriott of VA. David’s daughter Kathy married CW4 John Meyers (Ret), of WI and they have one daughter, Dr. Brigitte Davis who is married to Graham Davis of AL. David had a total of 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
David loved cooking and creating delicious German meals for his family. It was often said he was more German than his German wife Brigitte, but David was a true American through and through, however, he loved the Bavarian customs and ways of life. No one would ever leave David’s house hungry! It might be said he had an affinity for water and fishing, Port Aransas, the Chesapeake Bay or any other body of water where one could fish. David was a jokester and known for his many pranks. You never left him without a good belly laugh. He was a giving man and would give his shirt off of his back for anyone. He had a passion for books and you would always find him reading anything, no matter the subject and had a thirst for learning. Far greater of any love was his love of the Lord, he had a strong belief in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He loved to share scripture, read his bible and tell his thoughts about Christ with anyone willing to listen. His favorite Bible verse, although there were many was: John 14:2 "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
A committal service with Military Honors will be held August 26, 2021 at 2:30pm at Fort Sam National Cemetery, Committal Shelter 3. In lieu of flowers, if you would like, please donate to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital for Children, as David had a passion for both and was a regular donor to these worthy causes.
