Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Nickolas and Gertrude; and his sister, Clariese. His memory lives on through his wife of 61 years, Jackie Elaine Jones Uhrich; son, Sonnon Joseph Uhrich; daughter Michele Elaine Uhrich; brothers, Gale Uhrich, Denight Uhrich, and Glenn Uhrich; sisters, Helen English, Franses Macomber, and Joann Fabricias; and his only granddaughter Wesleigh Elaine Uhrich.
After serving in the United States Air Force for 23 years, Delbert retired at the rank of Master Sgt. During his time in the Air Force he helped with Operation Persian Rug; the transfer of the Panama Canal back to the citizens of Panama, and the recovery of infrastructure to Virgin Islands during Hurricane Hugo. Delbert helped facilitate the closure of the homestead to move to California for the benefit of mother’s health. He began working for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and continued to work there for 20 years. Delbert held positions such as park host, interpreter, and maintenance in various state parks throughout his career. He had a passion for the education of Texas’ natural habitat and history. Delbert logged countless volunteer service hours with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in all educational opportunities and capacities.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to their family, friends, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Friends of Guadalupe River State Park and Honey Creek State Natural Area. https://friendsofgrhc.org/
