As I move to complete another year of teaching, I reflect on the quiet patience of a wonderful woman. She is part of a group of women whom I admired, treasured, and miss dearly.

Hope was my grandma, and she filled my life with joy. I miss her so much she was a a big part of my life because she was the last part a my dad, Ed. I just want to thank her so much for her positivity in my life!

Hope was one of the great teachers at Wilshire Elementary.   I was honored to work with her for many years.  Students, teachers, parents and I loved Hope.   She worked with love and dignity.   With great sadness,  Rodney E Gillespie, former counselor at Wilshire

Hope, is my aunt, and friend.  She along with her mother and other sisters accepted my sisters 7 of us into their home when we lost our mother. She is someone we admired for her beauty, charm and faith. When we visited her at the numerous medical facilities she always had a smile, no matter how difficult her days had been. We prayed and sang together. Her very last night when we were with her she opened her eyes as we prayed and sang and we got the sence that she was singing and praying right along with us.  Hope that little light of yours we are going to let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.  We love you.

Hope had already retired by the time I worked at Wilshire, but she frequently subbed there. I had the blessing of being able to spend many lunches sitting with her and having conversations about teaching and life in general. She had a gift with children. She could make even the most difficult child want to do anything she asked of them, because they so much wanted her approval. Hope was the kind of teacher, friend, and overall human being the rest of us aspire to be. Rest in God's keeping, friend.

I will miss you my friend.  You were a beautiful person and I am so proud that I had the chance to work with you and see the inspiration you put into the lives of children and their families.  I am glad to have you as an Angel to watch over my class.  Rest on my friend, rest on.

Wilshire was a sad place yesterday after hearing of your passing. You always had a smile on your face and something kind to share.  But, we look on with "Hope" and know you are free from pain and sorrow.  We now have another angel that is looking over us.  You have left behind a beautiful legacy with your family and all the children you have touched.

Hope was an amazing teacher and friend.  She stepped in to sub for my class when my mother-in-law passed away and was a constant source of encouragement and support.  She was one of my favorite people at Wilshire because she had a special brightness in her life, and the kids loved her completely.  They would see her across the hall, and they would ask to go give her hugs and she had a way of making them feel individually special.  She will be greatly missed.

I was blessed to have worked alongside Hope at Wilshire. She was a wonderful person and a gifted teacher. She accepted all children into her classroom and made them all feel successful. My sympathy to her family.

Hope was a very dear friend of mine. We taught together at Wilshire elementary for quite a while. She will be missed. She was a positive & loving person.

I was very blessed to have many wonderful teachers during my school years and Mrs Mendoza was one of those.  I have very special memories of her class and she will always hold a special place in my heart.

Hope was an amazing and wonderful person. I met her at Wilshire and just loved seeing her smiling face as she interacted with the children. She had a beautiful and kind heart. I am blessed to have known her.

Mrs. Mendoza was the first grade teacher to both of our boys, Andy in 1991, and Alex in 1994. She was a loving, sweet, wonderful teacher and our whole family loved her!  We have many sweet memories from those years at Wilshire.  We send our deepest sympathy to her family in their loss of such a special lady. Sincerely, Marilyn and Bob Ahrens

I will always remember Hope as a kind, loving, and joyous spiritual lady. She was an awesome teacher who was respected by everyone she met. I was fortunate to work with her at Wilshire. Sending love and condolences to Ambrose and her family. Sorry I am no longer in San Antonio to attend her funeral.
