Jacqueline “Jackie” Giles Duke was born on July 24, 1958 to Joyce and Jack Giles in Evanston, IL. Early on the morning of July 13, 2011, the Lord called her home after a courageous two and a half year battle against cancer.
Jackie worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a Mail Carrier in Evanston, IL. In 1994 when she moved to San Antonio, TX, she changed careers and became a Customer Service Representative for The Mini Blind Company and Homeside Lending until she became employed by USAA Federal Savings Bank where she served its membership for over 12 years and made many devoted friends.
Jackie fought cancer with her faith in God, her will to live, and her determination to be independent. Her efforts in the battle against this illness were recognized by Redeeming Grace Christian Church where she was a member for over 10 years when she was awarded the “Going the Extra Mile Award” during the 2009 Annual Women’s Day Program. Jackie was commended for being a good example to others who face trials by displaying faith and courage in spite of their circumstances.
Left to cherish the memories of her caring heart and infectious smile are her children, Erin Giles, Erika Duke, and Ean Duke, three grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Jaden and Justin Tardy, all of San Antonio, Texas; her father, Jack Giles of Washington, D.C.; two sisters Janet Giles (Bobby Harden) of Evanston, Illinois and Jill Giles (Bruce Goddard) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two brothers Robin and William Giles also of Evanston, Illinois; the Dukes, her adoptive families; the Marshalls, the Glovers, and the Johnsons all of Converse, Texas, her USAA family, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Jackie is preceded in death by her mother Joyce Giles.
