James was born on June 13, 1942, in Bartley, West Virginia, to James H. Rudd and Mary Elizabeth Rudd. At just 17 years of age, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. After more than 21 years of honorable and distinguished service, James retired at the rank of First Sergeant (1SG), a role that reflected his leadership, dedication, and deep commitment to those he served alongside.
Following his military retirement, James began a second career in education, teaching pharmacy at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He remained there until his retirement in 2001, leaving a lasting impact on countless students through his knowledge, mentorship, and passion for learning.
In 1961, James met the love of his life, Carmen, in her hometown of Wiesbaden, Germany. Together, they built a life rooted in love, service, and family, and were blessed with two sons, James Jr. and Andrew.
James was preceded in death by his sister, Rheatha Bryant; his brothers, Charles Niven Rudd and Dennis Arnold Rudd; and his beloved son, Andrew. He is survived by his sisters, Marie Berry, Allene Sink, and Anne Aldish; his youngest brother, Rick Keiffer; his son, James Jr.; and extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
