John Francis Reid Jr.

John Francis Reid, Jr. of Live Oak passed away on January 17, 2018 at the age of 83. He was born on May 15, 1934 in Monticello, Iowa to John Francis and Grace Stahlberg Reid. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1952 and attended numerous Air Force Schools. He married Betsy on January 1, 1961 in her home town of Hollis, Maine. John served 24 years in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic, sold insurance for Metropolitan Life for seven years and also worked at the Post Office in maintenance for 21 years. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church since 1970. John stayed busy with his hobbies which included woodworking, repairing items and dabbling in politics, breakfasts with his friends and keeping up with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Myron and sister Jeryl. John is survived by his loving wife Betsy of Live Oak; daughters Sara Reid (Janelle Fischer) of Live Oak, April Poe (John); grandchildren Evan and Erin Poe of Schertz; brother Bernell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sisters Lorna Davis of Monticello, Iowa, Lynda DeShaw of Amber, Iowa, Janis Toenjes of Monticello, Iowa, LaVerle Kyarsgaard of Sterling, Illinois, Junelle Benter of Monticello, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Universal City.
