Maria "La Chica" M. Medina Guel

Maria “La Chica” M. Guel, age 86 passed away August 26, 2010. She was born November 29, 1923 in Selma, Texas to Lauriano and Marianita (Mendez) Medina. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jose S. Guel Sr; and son, Guadalupe Guel; survived by her children, Romanita Troncoso (Matilde), Jose Guel Jr.(Yolanda-Deceased), Enedina Garcia (Jose), Inocencio Guel (Maria Louisa), Guadalupe Guel (deceased), Adolfo Guel (Nancy), David Guel (Nettie), Elida Gately (Tom), Peter Guel (Marlene), Julio Guel (Rosie), Anna Flores (Jesse), Corina G. Carrasco and Paul Guel (Brenda). She has two sisters, Francisca Campa, who resides at Silver Tree Nursing Home in Schertz and Maria Garcia who lives in Wisconsin. She also has one brother Ignacio Medina who lives in Wisconsin; 38 Grandchildren; 52 Great Grandchildren; 16 Great-Great-Grandchildren; Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Maria married Jose Sr. young, at the age of 17. They were married for 45 Years. She worked for many years in the cotton fields of the Guadalupe County area. Her unique love was sewing clothes for her daughters and family gatherings. She also enjoyed cooking, bingo, and she had a passion for dancing. Maria enjoyed listening to music, eating fried chicken and being in the company of others. Maria’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Autumn Winds Nursing Home where Maria was a resident for the past 3 years. Visitation will be Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Monday, August 30, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Schertz. Interment will follow at Schertz-Cibolo Cemetery.
