Roger Wayne Davis joined his wife, Amalia Mejia and daughter, Victoria Reganne in Heaven's embrace on October 16, 2024 after a short battle with lung cancer. His daughter, Amalia (Annie) Sipes, son, Roger Davis, and niece, Liz Durden were by his side during his last hours.
You'd never know that Roger wasn't a native Texan between his signature boots and cowboy shirts, instead of being born in Old Quarry, Virginia on August 11, 1939. He grew up as ridge runner and could tell you stories about bootleg moonshine and picking blackberries, but was a good ol' country boy who earned a baseball scholarship. While he started college, he eventually chose to enter the Air Force and found himself stationed at Carswell AFB, Texas. In February 1961, he went on a fateful blind date with a young nursing student from Texas Woman's University. For Roger, it was love at first sight. Fir Amalia, she hated him: he wasn't tall or dark...but she admitted that she might have thought he was a little handsome. Five months later, on July 4th , they were married. He used to say that he had saved the world from her becoming a nurse.
Through their love filled life journey together, Roger and Amalia had three children: Amalia (Annie), Roger and Victoria, and were blessed with four grandchildren: Patricia, Victoria, Kira and Viktor. Roger and Amalia Travelled across the world and enjoyed dancing, but loved nothing more than to just spend time with one another; whether that be at their favorite beachside condo, Island House on North Padre Island, collecting seashells and watching the sun rise and set, or at home in front of the tv with Roger yelling at his Washington Redskins as Amalia snored next to him, waking up occasionally to say she wasn't asleep.
Roger lived a full life, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of family and friends that will dearly miss him. Roger too, his son, summed it up best when he said, "Dad was my hero. He taught me how to live, love, work and respect. He showed me that, no matter what happens in life, you don't get a pass on practicing all of those."
Arrangements for Roger have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX 78148. We invite all who knew and loved Roger to join us in remembering his wonderful life and to honor the legacy he leaves behind. Words of comfort and cherished memories may be shared with the family below in the “Add a Memory” section.
