RUBY PEARL (KITCHEN) BARNARD 1932 – 2021 On Wednesday, February 17, 2021, Ruby Pearl Barnard, loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, peacefully went to be with the Lord at the age of 88. One of eight children, Ruby was born in Lanesville, Illinois, to Delmar and Pearl (Castleman) Rogers.

She is survived by one brother, Delmar Rogers, and her four children, Pamela Mandel & husband Richard, Michael Kitchen & wife Jennifer, Howard Kitchen & wife Debbie, and Diane Kitchen, her devoted caretaker for the past six years. She is also survived by her many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glen Barnard; her brothers Raymond, James, and Howard Rogers; her three sisters baby Patricia, Betty Marvin, and Barbara VanPelt; and her Father & Mother.

Ruby was an always present mother - homeroom mom, Girl Scout leader, coach, and sometimes the only fan in the stands. She was a constant support in both good and challenging times, with a compassionate listening ear like no other. Her unwavering commitment to creating and documenting memories helped preserve memories for many in her family, a true gift of love. Ruby held an unprecedented love and competitive knack for board games, and had a sweet tooth the size of Texas. She served many years as an active member of Blanco United Methodist Church and recently became a member of First Baptist Church of Universal City. Ruby understood the importance of family and took much pride in her own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, instilling in them a love of adventure, the value of putting others' needs before your own, and the benefits of enjoying a meal with loved ones. Ruby lived a life full of service and was known for her generous, exuberant love of others. A kind and gentle soul with an optimistic outlook on life, Ruby left a memorable impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family will announce memorial service plans at a later date. Donations in Ruby's honor can be made to the First Baptist Church Universal City. Arrangements can be sent to First Baptist Universal City at 1401 Pat Booker Road Universal City, TX 78148.

I spent alot of time at the Kitchen’s household and Ruby always made Mary and I feel welcome. Heck, she made everybody feel that way. She is a special lady and always enjoyed a good laugh. Even though I haven’t seen her much in the last couple decades when I did get to see her we always picked up right where we left off.

It seems like just yesterday when Diane and I were two scrawny little kids playing ball down at the park. A few years later, those two kids along with a great coaching staff (Richard, Ruby and Sally) would go on to win the Texas State Championship. Still one of the highlights of my life. I can't believe that was 40 years ago. I feel blessed to have had you (and the rest of the Kitchen family) in my life to share all those memories of us kids growing up. Wouldn't change a minute of it. I know that Ruby is in HIS arms now. She is happy, healthy and free. God Bless You.

Beautiful tribute filled with descriptive wording that describes an equally beautiful Ruby. From my childhood to now, I shall draw on the memory of her caring and loving heart and the smile she could muster even toward the end—she remains in my heart and mind. My prayer is for family and friends to also be filled with similar uplifting memories.
