Sara Aleen Wozniak, born Sara Aleen Allmond on November 7, 1922, passed away on October 19, 2016 after a short battle with pneumonia. Aleen, as she was known, was born in Paragould, Arkansas to Sidney and Millie Allmond. She was the oldest daughter among six children.
Married to Chester Wozniak two days after her 21st birthday, Aleen spent 69 years dazzling the dance floor with her husband, Chester Wozniak. They had an adventurous life together in large part due to his career with the U.S. Air Force. While raising their two children, Carol and Bob, they lived in Araknsas, Wisconsin, the Philippines, Massachusetts, Paris, France, the Texas border with Mexico and then finally retiring in Universal City, Texas. After Chester's Air Force career, they spent three decades happily travelling and enjoying his retirement, sharing their love for adventure with their friends, children, and grandchildren.
In her community, Aleen was called an "angel" that helped many people. She spent decades volunteering at the Randolph Air Force base and was known by many as a wonderful neighbor and landlord and equally blessed by those wonderful neighbors and friends who kept her company and listened to her tales in her last years.
Aleen always joked that she was never quiet. Chatty, garrulous, loquacious: she was definitely your woman for a good chin-wag and we expect it just got a little less quiet in Heaven. Along with her gift for a great tale, she was fiercely independent, determined, and never at a loss for an opinion. She set her mind to living independently with her beloved cats and, by goodness, she pulled it off.
Most importantly, while she spent her last years missing her departed husband, she was very consistent about the many blessings in her long, happy life. She left those that knew and loved her very blessed as well. For her granddaughters, who lived nearby in Austin, she was a loving, devoted constant. She taught them the value of a frugality, pragmatism, sharp intelligence, speaking one's mind, and having a great laugh, even at oneself.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Chester Wozniak and her husband, Lt. Col. Chester Wozniak. She is survived by her brother, Harold Allmond, daughter Carol Ann Miller and son-in-law Larry Miller, grandson Greg Miller, granddaughters Sasha Rasco and Tara Wozniak, their husbands Whitney Rasco and Cody Stine, and seven great-grand-children: Leela, Lucas, Vivian, Zelda, Freedom, Justice, and Brage.
In lieu of flowers, please sit down with someone you love and have a great chinwag or make a donation to the San Antonio Humane Society.
