November 9, 1933 - February 29, 2016
Sue Weaver, beloved wife, mother and a friend to so many, passed ahead of us at the age of eighty two on February 29, 2016 after a valiant effort to overcome cancer. She died a beautiful and peaceful death with her family at her bedside. God gifted Sue with a deep love, spirituality and charisma that attracted and inspired all of those who knew and worked with her. She is survived by her loving husband of more than sixty years, Colonel Thomas G. Weaver, USAF Ret. and her forever grateful children, Michael Weaver (Polly) of Dallas, Robert Weaver (Alyson) of Austin, and Clare Taylor (Tim) of Denver, Colorado; and also by her dear sister Ann Pease and her brothers Dick and Tony Volz. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan, her son Paul and her granddaughter Kelly. Sue was blessed with nine grandchildren and one great grandson, and they have all themselves been blessed in return by Sue’s deep love for each of them.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Sue moved to San Antonio in 1947 and graduated from Incarnate Word High School in 1951. She continued on at Incarnate Word, graduating from Incarnate Word College in 1955. She loved Incarnate Word and later volunteered for more than eighteen years in service to the retired nuns from the Incarnate Word Community. Sue married Tom on July 16, 1955, shortly after his graduation from West Point and served as a faithful and loving Air Force Wife throughout his Air Force career, settling in Universal City after Tom’s retirement. Sue was a long time parishioner and daily Mass attendee at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Selma, and served as a Eucharistic Minister, Hospital Minister, Pastoral Council president, School Board president and a myriad of other volunteer duties during her years at OLPH. Most significant was her role as one of the original organizers of the ACTS Retreat Movement in the San Antonio Archdiocese. Sue also attended the Oblate School of Theology and received her Spiritual Director Certification. She lovingly shared her extraordinary talent for this ministry with her many clients over the years. Sue will probably be most remembered for her beautiful and moving “Mary Presentation” which she offered at so many ACTS Retreats and RCIA sessions all over South Texas. Words cannot begin to express our great love for Sue, our joy at her meeting her Lord Jesus Christ, and the deep sorrow at our parting for now. Our family is profoundly grateful for all of the love, support and prayers for Sue during her passing.
Visitation and Rosary will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Selma, Texas at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. The Funeral Mass will be concelebrated on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at OLPH at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Selma Catholic Cemetery #2.
