

Winifred (Winnie) Whatley, beloved mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2010 at the age of 82. Winnie was born in England on August 27, 1928 to Thomas and Gladys Goodwin and was the middle child with an older sister, Nancy and younger brother, Ralph (deceased). She is preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend of 40 years, Bill (USAF CMSgt. Retired). Winnie will be greatly missed by her daughter, Beverly Riddle, son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Belinda Whatley, grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Ken and Erin Riddle, granddaughter and grandson, Emily and Alex Whatley. Bill and Winnie traveled the world extensively and shared a wonderful life together until he was taken too soon in 1991. She was the epitome of an Air Force wife and had the talent of making a home for her family wherever the Air Force sent them. They moved to San Antonio in 1974 and made numerous lifelong friends. Winnie was a lovely and independent woman who loved to share a laugh or smile and was always willing to help out anyone who needed a hand. She loved to write long newsy letters and kept in contact with everyone who came into her life including those she knew as a child. Winnie found her calling in helping others through volunteer work at Randolph Air Force Base Clinic, Northeast Methodist Hospital and through Randolph Chapel hosted events at Autumn Winds Retirement Home. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life and those whose life she touched will also miss her. Visitation will be held at the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with services held at the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:30 A.M. Because of her giving nature, Winnie would be delighted to have donations made to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
