Alice Katherine Hanson

Virginia Beach - Alice Katherine Hanson, 97, passed away July 2, 2013 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in the Comfort Care Unit. She was born the youngest of eight children to the late John Palmer and Lydia Wise Baldwin on Jan. 17, 1916 in Daviess County, IN. Alice graduated from Glendale High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. After moving to Long Island, NY, she obtained her nursing license. For many years, she worked at the Nassau County Tuberculosis Sanatorium. After moving to California, she worked at the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach, CA. Her many years of nursing were served with honor and dignity. She loved her patients and her work. Alice was a member of Haygood United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Gilson; son-in-law, Jim; grandson, David; granddaughter, Jennifer; two nieces; two nephews; and many who loved her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Hanson; parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

The family would like to extend their love and a special thank you to the staff of Marian Manor for their tender love, compassion, and care of our mother and grandmother through the years.
