
Norfolk- Amos Gerald “Jerry” Shepherd passed peacefully from this world on Dec. 7, 2013 surrounded by family and friends. He was born, the only boy of three children, on Aug. 17, 1931 to Amos Ackerman and Ruby Wallace Shepherd in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Emma Eugenia “Jeannie” Stallings Shepherd and one sister, Mary Haines. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
He worked for many years at Norfolk Naval Base Public Works in air conditioning and refrigeration, where he finally retired in the early 1980’s. After retirement he worked as an insurance agent for Southwestern Life for about ten years. Come rain or shine he thoroughly enjoyed his daily early morning 3 mile walk. Jerry was known for his ability to fix most anything. His hobbies included woodworking. Jerry was also a former past Master of Charles T. Morton Masonic Lodge. He loved his quiet time at home reading the Bible and playing with his two Pomeranians. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the First Baptist Church of Norfolk officiated by Associate Pastor Phillip Herring. A visitation will be held one hour piror. Interment will be at Rosewood Memorial Park.
