Billy Ray Holbert

Billy Ray Holbert, 91, of Chesapeake, VA was reunited with friends and family in heaven on November 28, 2023. Billy was born on January 30, 1932, in Pitt County, NC, to Herbert and Ella Holbert. After serving two tours in the Navy during the Korean War, he graduated from the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary with a degree in accounting. Upon graduation, Billy was employed with the state of Virginia as an auditor. He then spent several years at A. Lee Rawlings. In 1977, he opened his own accounting and consulting firm in Virginia Beach, now called The Accounting Group, where he served the Tidewater area for over 40 years, until his death. Billy is survived by his son, Larry; granddaughters Elizabeth, Kathy, and Amy; two great-grandchildren; his brother Richard (Lilia); and special friend and business partner Charlyne Murphy. Billy was predeceased by his first wife Jean (James) Holbert and their sons Christopher, David, and Ronnie. He was also predeceased by his second wife JoAnn (Roberts) Holbert and their daughter Linda. A memorial honoring Billy’s life and legacy will be held on December 14, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at People’s Baptist Church, 1200 Cedar Rd, Chesapeake VA 23322.
