Bradley Mark Whyte, 46, passed away at his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia on March 5, 2026 after succumbing to his 34 year long battle with depression. He was a devoted husband and father, a loving son, a beloved son-in-law, and a cherished friend. He will be deeply mourned by all who knew him.
Brad was born in South Africa on May 6, 1979. He graduated from St. Benedict’s College in Bedfordview in 1996, where he was a dedicated member of the school rowing team. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics from Rand Afrikaans University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Wits Business School. Brad’s career as an information security analyst transitioned into one as a business systems analyst in the life insurance industry.
He met his wife, Roma, in 2000 and they were married in 2005. They had their first child in 2008 and their second in 2009, believing their family to be complete.
In 2010, he emigrated to the United States with his family, where he became a full-time parent to his two young children in Sacramento, California.
The passion, drive and pursuit of excellence that Brad brought to his work were translated into the love and devotion he brought into his career as a father and husband. He homeschooled his children and was an ever-present supporter of their competitive gymnastics, swimming and baseball interests.
He was an active member of the Sangha at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento and the affiliated Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts troops.
Focused on fitness throughout his life, Brad dedicated many years to each of his sporting passions, from rowing and road bicycle racing in his teens, to kung fu in his twenties, CrossFit in his thirties and forties, and finally competitive pistol shooting in the past three years.
He pursued his many hobbies and interests with intensity, demanding excellence from himself in everything he did. He meticulously built and flew radio-controlled airplanes, perfected his calligraphy and Copperplate script, shared his love of woodworking, worked tirelessly on home and car renovation projects, managed a homestead – including raising a multitude of poultry, meditatively practiced fly tying and flyfishing, and cooked with the flair of a celebrity chef.
In 2020, he and Roma welcomed their third child, and in 2023 the family moved to Virginia Beach, where Brad began a new career renovating residential properties.
Brad is survived by his wife, Roma; their son Nikhil (18), daughters Ariane (16) and Emmarie (5); his parents Dennis Edwin Law Whyte and Rosalind Whyte; and his brother Lance Whyte. He is predeceased by his brother Barry and grandparents Law & Maude Whyte, and Ronald & Alice Shung.
A funeral service will be held at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 North Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA on Sunday, March 15 at 10am EDT. The funeral will be livestreamed, and can also be viewed afterwards for a number of days. There will be an informal reception at the family’s home after the service, at 2924 Bald Eagle Bend, Virginia Beach. The family invites everyone who knew him to attend any way they can, and to share memories of him on the funeral home’s website.
