

Calvin Leroy Brown, Sr. was born in Richmond, VA on July 7, 1947. He died after a brief illness on August 30, 2017. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Jean Harris Brown; his parents, Calvin Brown and Dora Ball; stepdad, James Ball; brothers, George and Curtis Brown; father and mother-in-law, Joseph L.A. Harris, Jr. and Pauline Harris; and sister-in-law, Jeraldine Harris Chatman.
Calvin was educated through the Richmond County Schools. He served in the Army between 1966 and 1968. He was married to the late Barbara Brown for 46 years and to this union, three sons were born. Calvin and Barbara lived in Chesapeake, VA for 43 years until they moved to Oldhams, VA to live with his sister, Shirley in 2010. Calvin had various jobs through the years including the Naval Shipyard and brick masonry. Calvin was ordained into the ministry in 2007 under the direction of Pastor Joell Angel. He pastored the Church Reigning By Faith before joining New Jerusalem Church under the leadership of Pastor Gerald Smith.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Calvin, Jr. and his wife, Deauna, Marius and wife, Monique, and Craig and wife, Carissa; three grandchildren, Lalon Brown, Jasmyn and Jayla Franks; three sisters, Geraline Moore, Shirley Weldon, and Callie Barber and husband, Wilfred; two aunts, Doris Spencer and Beverly Gerald; two uncles, Roosevelt Gerald and William Spencer; a step-uncle, Oscar Ball; three step-aunts, Doris Newton, Gustella Ball and Mary Dorothy Ball; five brothers-in-law, William Chatman, Joseph Harris, III and wife, Ada, Walter Harris and wife, Temple, Glenn Harris and wife, Rosie, Kelvin Harris, and James Harris and wife, Lynda; three sisters-in-law, Carol Harris and husband, David, Sharon Foreman and husband, Anthony, and Stacey Brown; a special niece, Dora Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and his extended New Jerusalem Church Family.
Celebration of Calvin's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at New Jerusalem Church in Kinsale, VA, visitation begins at 10:00 am. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Chesapeake, VA. You may offer condolences to the family at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
