Carl Martin Michaels, Sr. 91, passed away peacefully in his home on March 7, 2020 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born May 1, 1928 in McKeesport, PA the son of the late Joseph Michalski and Charlotte Kapis Michalski.
Carl loved his country and proudly served in the Army. He enjoyed traveling overseas while in the service. Carl was a self-taught Master Furniture Refinisher, having worked for Haynes and Weathersby Furniture, Virginia Beach, VA, Kaplan’s Furniture and Firth Sterling Steel Manufacturing, McKeesport, PA, and Goldenson’s Furniture in Pittsburgh, PA. Additionally, Carl taught shop at Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk, VA.
He loved the beach, reading, UFC, wrestling, radio talk shows, building and repairing furniture, animals and his family. Carl was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, VA and St. Mary Czestochowa, McKeesport, PA.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Michaels; sister, Harriet Classic; sons, Carl Dennis Michaels and David Michaels; and grandson, David Michaels.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Catherine Sinot of McKeesport, PA; ex-wife, Esther “Susie” Michaels of Virginia Beach, VA; sons, Carl Michaels Jr. of McKeesport, PA, Mark Michaels of McKeesport, PA, and Tim Michaels (Melanie) of Portsmouth, VA; daughters, Starr Griffin (Jamie) of Virginia Beach, VA and Peggy Komyanik (Terry) of Liberty Boro, PA; grandchildren, Brittney Michaels of Virginia Beach, VA, Nikki Tarr of Lawrenceville, GA, Brandon Michaels of Washington, PA, Michael Rudisill of Portsmouth, VA, Kyle Michaels of Portsmouth, VA, and TJ Komyanik of Liberty Boro, PA; granddaughter-in-law, Heather Michaels of Lincoln Boro, PA; great-grandchildren, Arielle Long of Virginia Beach, VA, Blaze Love of Virginia Beach; and Ronin Iocco of Lawrenceville, GA; and many nieces; nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his memory to an animal shelter of your choice.
