He was the ever loyal husband of Celeste E. Webster for seventy devoted years. He was born on January 22, 1922, in a log cabin near Dillion’s Mill outside of Roanoke, VA, where he spent most of his boyhood and where he met Celeste Kelly, the only love of his life. After serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, he began to raise his family here in Norfolk and with the support of his brothers, served the Indian River Community with an automotive service center for forty-four years. After retirement in 1999, he began his favorite pastime, tracing his family roots. His untiring love and concern for his family was the one great admiration we all held in common. His boyhood life of poverty, living through the great depression, experiencing a war, owning a business, raising a family, keeping his love for his wife new throughout the years, and being able to demonstrate the love of God through his Christ-like attitudes and actions are all part of his wisdom and strength with which he led this family.
Left to cherish these memories are his wife, Celeste; sons, Donald and wife, Cecelia; Gary and wife, DeGina; Michael and wife, Audrey; and daughter, Cathy Christiansen. Of these four children he was the proud patriarch of seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
