Mr. Dalton was born in Miami, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Lillian Parrish Perry; foster parents Jacob and Mellie Dalton; three wives Lavonne Neighbors Dalton, Joyce Dudley Dalton and Gladys Davis Dalton; five stepchildren Philip Davis, Evelyn Davis, Brenda Sterne, Rhonda Dudley and Diana Morris; four brothers Ralph Perry, Johnny Perry, Samuel Mason and Jonas Dalton.
Mr. Dalton was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War and the Japan Occupation Force. He retired as an electrician with the Navy Nuclear Fuel Division with Babcock and Wilcox for many years. He was a longtime member of London Bridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son Phillip L. Dalton, daughter Lavonne "Elaine" Dalton, stepchildren James Davis and Barbara Askew; five grandchildren Heather Laughon, Tim Shea, Scott and Steven Askew and Carrie Taylor and nine other grandchildren; many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law Arthur J. Neighbors (Andrea) and sister-in-law June Hamlett Mosebrook (Guy).
A Celebration of Life will be held at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home on Sunday, October 16, at 2:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Whitten Funeral Home, Timberlake Chapel in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Services will also be held on Saturday, October 22,10am at Whitten Funeral Home, 7404 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, Virginia. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest, VA.
