Mr. Sanford was born in Windsor, NC, a son of the late John and Sarah Sanford. He was a member of the Azalea Garden Church in Virginia Beach.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife of 74 years, Ruby V. Sanford, who passed away on December 27, 2013, and his son, George “Mel” Sanford.
He is survived by his children, Joan Brandon and her husband, David of Florence and Terry Sanford and his wife, Sharon of Virginia Beach; daughter-in-law, Gerry Sanford of Chesapeake, VA; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends.
