Nick was born on April 17,1946 in Portsmouth, VA. He is preceded in death by his in-laws Mary and Ted Tranquillo and brother-in-law Gary Tranquillo.
Nick's lifelong career was as a barber where he started at Cory's Barbershop in downtown Norfolk. He then went on to Military Circle for a few years before opening his own shop inside the Admiralty Hotel. After notice that the Admiralty hotel was closing, he opened Nick's Hair Cutting on Newtown Road where he remained until 2017. Nick cared deeply for his customers as they did him.
After Nick retired from hair cutting, he worked part-time at Kempsville Greens Golf Course and Bow Creek Golf Course.
Nick loved being around people and was often the life of the party. He had numerous friends and acquaintances and could always spark a conversation with anyone he came across.
Nick was an avid sportsman and sports fan. As a youth he played baseball, basketball, and was an outstanding amateur boxer. Nick played in adult softball leagues and was an enthusiastic golfer. He loved to coach little league to young players and most importantly – Nick was a die-hard Redskins fan!
Nick married Cheryl Tranquillo in Chesapeake. Virginia in 1973. Nick was extremely proud and loved his amazing family.
His survivors include his loving wife of 49 years Cheryl Bolton, five children Sheri Lynn, Lisa Marie (Mark) Eric Todd (Frances), Nicholas Lee (Michelle) and Derek Shawn; grandchildren Brandi, Jamie, Brandon (Kaitlyn), Jonathan (Fae), Chance (Julia), Ty, Ean, Arika and Bryce; eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a sister Ann Smith and family and two brothers-in-law Dee and Steve Tranquillo.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 1:00 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church, 5497 Providence Road in Virginia Beach.
