

James J. Crossan, Jr., 82, passed away August 3, 2016. He was born May 31, 1934 in Bryn Mawr, PA to the late James, Sr. and Mary Crossan. Mr. Crossan began his naval career in Bainbridge, MD and served on the USS Intrepid and USS Independence, landing in stations across the globe. He responded to the Cuban Missile Crisis; earned the Bronze Star while stationed in Chu Lai, Viet Nam; he finished his career with an exemplary service record, retiring in 1970 in VA Beach as Chief Hospital Corpsman. After retirement, Mr. Crossan became a police officer rising to the rank of Sergeant on ODU’s campus. He was a loving husband to the late Charlotte Crossan for 56 years, a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is also predeceased by his son, James “Jimmy” J. Crossan, III.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Deborah Slough and her husband, Dennis; son, Shawn P. Crossan and his wife, Heather; granddaughters, Emily Jennings and her husband, Matthew and Karen Slough; great-grandchildren, Easton and Stella Jennings; brother, John F. Crossan; sister, Barbara A. Gorbey and her husband, David; and cherished dog, Deojii.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, August 8, 2016 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park with military honors.
