Judith “Judi” Ann Callinan Camaione, age 85, passed away on April 3, 2026 in Virginia Beach, VA surrounded by her family. Judi lived a beautiful life of loving service to others which endeared her to all she met. Judi was survived by her husband David Norman Camaione, who died shortly after on April 5, 2026; her children, Caron Camaione-Williams (Jeffrey), Cristin “Crisi” Camaione-Russell, (D. Alan), and Colleen Camaione-Edmonston (Christopher); seven grandchildren, Cody C. Williams, Jordan C. Williams, David C. Russell (Amanda Cerva), Joseph “Joey” C. Russell (Kathryn “Katie” Veltman), Jon Patrick Edmonston, Ronald Gabriel Edmonston, and Amelia Mae Edmonston; her brother Stephen “Steve” Callinan (Candy), sister Kathleen “Kay” Hawkins (Jim), and sister-in-law, Sarah “Sally” Callinan; numerous nephews, nieces, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Judi was predeceased by her parents Joseph Aloysius Callinan and Llewella McGuire Callinan; grandson, Jake C. Williams; and brother Daniel "Dan" Callinan.
Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Judi married David of Watertown, New York on August 26, 1961. The couple was married for 64 loving years. As a lifelong Catholic, Judi attended Rosary School, met Dave at the Newman Center on the Ohio State campus, married at Holy Rosary Church, taught CCD classes, faithfully worshiped at Catholic churches in Ohio, Illinois, Connecticut, Virginia, and North Carolina, and led Brownie and Girl Scout troops. Her faith and service to others was the foundation of how she lived her life as a loving mother, grandmother, teacher, friend, caregiver, and community servant.
A passionate educator her entire life, Judi graduated in 1961 from The Ohio State University with a BA in Education and later earned her BS in Accounting from Central Connecticut State College. Her life was dedicated to a variety of roles, but her greatest passion was working with children. Judi served educational institutions from the college level to elementary schools: Central Connecticut State University, Northwest Catholic High School (CT), Coventry Schools (CT), Annie E. Vinton Elementary School (CT), and volunteered in her daughters’ and grandchildren’s schools. A lover of learning, she studied numbers, took more classes, loved puzzles of all kinds, and could beat anyone in Jeopardy. With all her talents and skills, her greatest delights were supporting children, building relationships, and immersing in her communities.
Judi‘s most precious gifts were her hospitality, listening ear, compassion, and serving heart. She had a willingness to do anything for anybody no matter the task. She found the most pleasure surrounding herself with family, cheering in the bleachers, on the sidelines, and in the audience of various events of her daughters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews: wrestling, cheerleading, gymnastics, soccer, football, baseball, hockey, lacrosse, field hockey, choir, theater, and band. From sewing costumes for the school play to helping at wrestling tournaments to creating bulletin boards. Judi served school communities in OH, IL, CT, VA, and NC specifically at Princess Anne Elementary (Virginia Beach, VA), Kellam High School (Virginia Beach, VA), and St. Timothy’s School, (Raleigh, NC).
A life-long lover of crafting and gardening, Judi filled many homes with a trinket or craft made and gifted in kindness. With her joy for gardening, she cherished learning and creating in the Garden Club at West Neck. Most prominently, she loved the way in which the group served local Virginia Beach schools and decorated for the West Neck community.
Judi's happy places included any spot where family was gathered, traveling to see family, standing among the family pictures on her walls, listening to the sound of the waves hitting the beach, digging her toes in the sand and building sand castles with grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Judi will occur at a later date to coordinate with her loving husband Dave. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to your favorite children’s organization in her honor.
