

Larry David Blett peacefully passed away from his earthly life on August 4, 2023 to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his beloved dog, Lucy. He leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Vicki Blett; mother-in-law, Pat Goodwin; sisters-in-law Wanda Mudge, Terri Phillips (Clay), Sonya Hendren, Joanie Riegel (JC), and brother-in-law Steve Ellis (Belinda) and nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Irving Blett, Sr. and Lucille Koss Blett and his five brothers, Irving Jr., Keith, Dennis, Robert and Raymond Blett.
Larry retired after 45 years from Landmark Communications (The Virginian Pilot). Previously he served in the U.S. Navy and the Reserves for 8 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk and before his cancer took over, he loved to sing in the Choir, the Master Choir for Seniors and the King’s Choir, a Christian based community choir. He enjoyed playing with the First Baptist Church Dulcimers as well as playing the guitar and banjo for his enjoyment. Larry served on Disaster Relief trips with First Baptist Church. He was also a former member of the Tidewater Appalachian Trail Club where he met his wife.
The family would like to thank Dick Baker, Edd Nixon, Harvey Martin, Don Hippie, Bob Williams, Mildred Bloodworth, Stan McMillan and the Master Choir for visiting, singing and praying with Larry while he was under hospice care. The family would also like to thank the nurse’s aide, Rhonda; nurses, Kendra and Julie; and the Social Worker, Kristi of Amedisys Hospice.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, August 26, 11am at First Baptist Church of Norfolk, 312 Kempsville Rd, Norfolk, VA, 23502. A private interment service will be held at the Albert G Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Disaster Relief at First Baptist Church of Norfolk.
