Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on August 20, 1938, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence Andrew and Lillian Rose Woelfel. Larry was a member of the graduating class of 1956 from Perry High School. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and became a corpsman serving in special forces on UDT and SEALs. During his time in the Navy, he completed his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from George Washington University. He dedicated 24 years of service to his country, retiring with honor. Following his distinguished military career, he continued his commitment to service as Operations Manager with Operation Smile, where he made a meaningful impact on countless lives. He also earned his Master's Degree from George Washington University, in Business Administration.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Dana Lynn Corbit Woelfel; his son, Brian (Maribeth) and daughter, Lynn; his three grandchildren Rhett, Donovan, and Zoe; and his brother, Les (Sue) Woelfel of Pittsburgh.
A man of generosity and dedication, Larry found joy in gardening and was always ready to lend a hand—whether coaching his children’s sports teams or fixing things around the house. His spirit of service extended to his family, friends, and community, leaving a legacy of love and support.
A Graveside Celebration of Life, with full military honors, will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park.
