Linda Winfield Matthews

Linda Winfield Matthews of Virginia Beach passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025. Linda was born on March 22, 1942, in Norfolk VA to the late James R. and Louisa (Tabb) Winfield, and was the eighth of nine siblings. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur M. Matthews and her siblings: Clarene, Barbara, Earl, and Robert Lee.

Linda loved her family to no end and often put on performances with her brothers and sisters in their yard for the neighborhood kids. She was a very talented singer, actress, and dancer. She won talent shows in school while also performing in school plays. She performed the lead in “Plain and Fancy” at the Little Theatre of Norfolk to wonderful reviews. She also traveled to Europe as part of a group called the Virginia Belles to perform for the troops as part of the USO. Linda was a very giving and selfless person that often helped those around her without craving attention or credit. She loved to cook dinner and entertain friends and family at the house and was always a gracious host. It was hard to find a time when she did not have her inviting smile on her face and ready to give a big Winfield laugh. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter and she will be missed.

Linda is survived by her sisters; Faye, Mary Lou, and Brenda, her brother, Brian; her sons, Craig (Susan) and Brett (Heather); along with three grandchildren.

A mass will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1pm at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1404 Pacific Ave, Virginia Beach, VA 2345. You may offer your condolences at www.kellumfuneralhome.com
