Lorraine Sullivan Butler, 92, passed away on February 28, 2024, peacefully at her home. She was born on March 19, 1931 to the late Caroline (Wolf) and Earl L. Sullivan Sr., in New York. Her husband of 44 years, John Thomas Butler, Jr., preceded her in death.
Lorraine lived through World War II, and was ten years old when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The war took her family to New York, where she lived in a town at the foothills of the Catskills Mountains and where her father held a job supporting the manufacture of military equipment. They moved to Virginia where she remained most of the rest of her life. There she met and kept lifelong friends, married John and raised their children. She taught pre-school and was an ever faithful, very active member of her church. She lived the last few years of her life in North Carolina with her daughter Carol and son-in-law Maurice.
She is survived by her sister Barbara Cartwright; children, Nancy Teagle, Gary Butler, Beverly Wright, Carol Totty; seven grandchildren, Emily McDade, Paul Butler, William Butler, Melanie Wright, Kaitlyn Broderick, Jessica Flynn, Austin Totty; and twelve great grandchildren.
