

Virginia Beach - Maria Aurora Vicera Calayo, 75, joined the Lord on March 6, 2014. She is now reunited with her first-born daughter, Maria Melani Vicera Calayo and her parents, Julio and Taciana Vicera, enjoying everlasting life.
Born in Ligao, Albay, Philippines, she was very proud of her hometown province next to the Mayon Volcano. She attended college in Manila where she met her future husband, Manuelito O. Calayo. As a U.S. Navy family, their travels brought them to California and finally to Hampton Roads in 1970. Settling in Virginia Beach, she became a well known pioneer in the local Filipino business community. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed deeply.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 51 years, Manuelito Calayo; her four children, Mitchell Vicera Calayo and wife Jadon, Manuel Vicera Calayo and wife Tina, Melina Calayo Heitkamp and husband Jeff, and Marydawn Calayo Bovatsek and husband John; and ten grandchildren, Ryan, Conner, Matthew, Christian, Michael, Evan, Gabriel, Jacob, Noah, and William.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2014 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at noon, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church celebrated by Father Joseph Adams. Entombment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
